Peer Review Process

Peer Reviewing policy

The policy outlined on this page applies to Biotechnological Research only.

General information
The following types of contribution to Biotechnological Research are peer-reviewed: Original Research articles, Letters, Short Communications and Reviews.
Online manuscript review
We ask peer-reviewers to submit their reports via online (through email). The reviewer need to submit the review report in prescribed format which can downloaded from the Download section of the journal.
Criteria for publication
Biotechnological Research accept every research within the scope of the journal which was done scientifically. Un-scientific and those written in Poor language are only rejected. See our Rejection statistics here.
The review process
All submitted manuscripts are read by the editorial staff. To save time for authors and peer-reviewers, only those papers that seem most likely to meet our editorial criteria are sent for formal review. Those papers judged by the editors to be unscientific and illegitimate are rejected promptly without external review.

Manuscripts were then peer reviewed by two reviewers on the subject field in an author blind manner (Double Blind). Then reviewers will send the report in prescribed format of the journal to the editors. The editors will compile it and then make a decision based on the reviewers' advice, from among several possibilities:

Accept, with or without editorial revisions

Invite the authors to revise their manuscript to address specific concerns before a final decision is reached

Reject, but indicate to the authors that further work might justify a resubmission

Reject outright, typically on grounds of specialist interest, lack of novelty, insufficient conceptual advance or major technical and/or interpretational problems
Selecting peer-reviewers

Reviewer selection is critical to the publication process, so our editors will assess the paper first and select suitable reviewers form our pool, which match with the domain the paper is focusing

Open Access Policy

Biotechnological Research provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge, meaning:

  • Everyone has free and unlimited access to the full-text of articles published in Biotechnological Research; manuscripts are freely available without subscription or price barriers.
  • Papers are immediately released in open access format (no long waiting periods),
  • Open Access publication is supported by authors' institutes or research funding agency by payment of a comparatively lowArticle Processing Charges (APCs) for accepted articles.

Advantages of Open Access for Authors

High Visibility and High Availability - Free and unlimited accessibility of the publication over the internet without any restrictions.
Open Access publications are more frequently cited due to their high publicity and availability.
Easily Searchable - Publications are also more easily searchable in search engines and indexing databases.
Less Costly -  The cost of editorial processing and editing fee of each accepted paper is charged to authors' institutes or research funding agency. The cost of processing and the publication of an article is covered through the one-time payment of an Article Processing Charges (APCs) for each accepted article.
Rapid Publication - Accepted papers are immediately published online.

Editorial Policy & Publication Ethics

Authorship Criteria
The Editors expect each author to have contributed significantly to the study and be thoroughly familiar with the original data. The Editors also expect each author to have read the complete manuscript and to take responsibility for the content and completeness of the manuscript and to understand that if the paper, or part of the paper, is found to be faulty or fraudulent, that he/she shares responsibility with his/her coauthors.

Changes in Authorship after Submission

Substantial changes in authorship (additions, removals, or change of order) requested after the first submission must be approved by the Editor-in-Chief. Changes must be requested by the corresponding author and sent to editor@biotechnologicalresearch.net. The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to accept the request, reject the request, withdraw the manuscript from consideration/publication, or retract a published article based on the nature and extent of the circumstances related to the request. All decisions by the Editor-in-Chief in these matters are final.

Errata
Biotechnological Research makes every effort to publish error-free manuscripts, providing authors with page proofs before publication. There are occasions, however, when it is necessary to publish a correction. Errata may be sent directly to editor@biotechnologicalresearch.net

The author will be assessed page charge(s) for errata that result from author error. The journal will cover the costs of errata that are a result of the editing process.

Misconduct
Biotechnological Research only accepts research papers that are original works, no part of which has been published or is being considered for publication elsewhere. Duplicate publication, falsification, plagiarism, or fabrication will be considered actionable misconduct. Misconduct does not include honest error or honest differences in interpretations or judgments of data.
If such situations occur, the corresponding author will have the sole responsibility to give an explanation. If the explanation is satisfactory and error had occurred unknowingly. The journal will retract the paper and publish a notice stating the reason for retraction. But we will maintain the abstract page after retraction too without the full manuscript. If the explanation is not satisfactory we will inform the concerned authority of corresponding authors’ affiliation to give an explanation and take action against the authors.

Statement on the Ethical Use of Humans and/or Animals in Research
The research described in submitted manuscripts that involve the use of human beings, including healthy volunteers, must adhere to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki as well as to Title 45, U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, Part 46, Protection of Human Subjects, Revised November 13, 2001, effective December 13, 2001. Research involving animals must adhere to Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. All investigations involving humans or animals reported in its publications must be conducted in conformity with these principles. In addition, all investigations involving humans or animals must be approved by an appropriate institutional review committee.

Access to Unique Materials such as Cell Lines, Organisms, and Software
Authors of papers published in the Journal are obligated to honor any reasonable request by qualified investigators for unique propagative materials, such as cell lines, hybridomas, DNA clones, and organisms that are described in the paper. If computer software programs are developed and used in submitted manuscripts, the programs must be made available to the reviewer upon request. The source code or the program must be made available, either commercially or in downloadable form from the authors if the manuscript is accepted for publication. Furthermore, following the recommendation in the Proposed Principles and Guidelines for Reporting Preclinical Research that emerged from the Reproducibility Workshop sponsored by the Nature Publishing Group, Science/AAAS and the National Institutes of Health on June 2, 2014, descriptions of biological materials should include enough information to uniquely identify the materials, such as:
Repository accession numbers when available
Antibodies - source, dilutions, and validation criteria
Cell lines - source, authentication, derivation, and contamination status (such as mycoplasma and/or other cell lines)
Animals - source, species, strain, sex, age, husbandry
Transgenic animals - genetic background
Biotechnological Research reserves the right to deny further publication rights to authors unwilling to abide by these principles.

Copyright and Permissions Policy
Biotechnological Research uses the Creative Commons license 'attribution'. This license guarantees to the author the moral rights – the right to be cited through a proper citation – but otherwise gives broad permission to use and reuse the article, including for commercial purposes.

Repository / Archive Deposition Policy for Accepted Manuscripts and Published Articles
Biotechnological Research permits authors to deposit--in their non-profit, institutional repositories--versions of their manuscripts which were submitted for peer review without requiring authors to acquire specific permission from the journal office.
